Important resources

For information

Although, we don’t provide direct support to victim/survivors our Get Help page provides a list of organisations and services that can help and provide support.

If you, a family member or friend has been affected by strangulation our Information leaflet for victims provides details on what you need to know.

If you are in danger please call 999 the police emergency number immediately.

“Educating people kind of starts with educating ourselves, then trying to help others to the best of our ability.”

Upcoming events & opportunities to get involved

Below is a list of upcoming events and opportunities for the lived experience group at IFAS:

  • Next group meeting: Wednesday, 30th July at 10am
  • Article with the Sun – We have been approached by a journalist at the sun who is looking to write a piece on strangulation and wants to hear from those with lived experience.
    • Our comms manager has spoken to her and provided our information for journalists.
    • She is happy for us to come along to any discussions and for us to have full editorial control over the final version which she will send to us before publishing.
  • Group connection outside of monthly meeting – At the last group meeting we discussed the possibility for more connection among the survivor group outside of the monthly meeting. We have created a poll to explore some options that we could trial.

  • Survivor group project (summer 2025) – we are conducting interviews exploring the impact of strangulation on psychological wellbeing, memory and the lived experience of developing ways to cope. If you would like to participate please do get in touch! https://ifas.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Information-sheet-survivor-project-summer-2025.pdf
  • Conferences – We are in the planning stages of our annual conference which will take place in November 2025, this is one for discussion at the next group, but your contribution would be most welcome at this important event.
  • Podcasts – We have just shared our first podcast on Strangulation in UK Media – Well done Suzie!
    • We want to do more just like this, on a range of different topics. If you have ideas for topics or would like to be on a panel for a podcast, please do reach out.

To discuss any of the above please email mariannem@ifas.org.uk

Lived experience

I would say definitely coming off the last group, it was so amazing hearing other women talk about their experiences. And knowing that I’m not alone
