The Institute for Addressing Strangulation (IFAS) has been working with the Police since the Institute was launched in 2022 after the introduction of new legislation on strangulation, establishing this crime as a standalone offence. From this work, we have developed guidance for police officers to embed within their work to support the response to and management of cases of strangulation. The guidance, developed by IFAS, was subject to a consultation period and relevant amends have now been made.

In addition to the full guidance document, we have developed a ‘pocket guide’ designed to be a quick reference to key points from the full guide. Thank you to Cheshire Police for your support in the development of the pocket guide. Please download and read the Police Pocket Guide here: Police Management of Strangulation Pocket Guide
